This is JSA’s first adding machine, from way back in 1981. It was in active use in the day to day business of JSA until just a few years ago. But we couldn’t get rid of it,…because of the sticker.

In the early days of JSA, it was just Mimi and Wayne. Wayne had two young daughters who would sometimes come by the office. One day, his oldest daughter, Jessica, went to the office and was hanging on the edge of Mimi’s desk as she often did. But this day, she happened to have a small bear sticker with her which she shared with Mimi’s adding machine.

Fast forward about 20 years, and Jessica was back for a visit in the office. She was now grown and a dancer in New York. As she breezed by to say hello to Mimi, she saw the sticker. She remembered putting it on there so long ago and couldn’t believe it had stayed all this time. To which Mimi replied, “Well, you gave it to me, why on earth would I ever take it off!”

While the adding machine no longer works, perhaps it worked just a little bit longer because of that sticker. And we’re the same way. We don’t just work at JSA, we’re family. And it’s because of that we are able to work just a little bit harder every day for our insurance family. We felt privileged to watch Wayne’s little girls grow up to be strong, amazing women and today, his youngest daughter, Danielle, is now our President & CEO and has a little girl of her own. We wonder what she’ll put a sticker on…
